I can assure you that no white gravy ever graced the table at my home during my growing up years. In fact, I never saw a white gravy in my life until I moved to North Louisiana to attend University of Louisiana in Monroe.
So I have decided to issue a challenge to restaurants far and wide to help me to not only understand, but to enjoy a good dumplin' from time to time.
Today, I can honestly say that I've had the best dumplin's I've ever tasted at the Cotton Patch. They were almost pleasantly palettable. My gag reflex stayed in check and I was able to eat my real meal, grilled chicken with steamed veggies, rice, a house salad, and wheat toast.
What I don't understand about the dumplin' is what this sea of white goo is. Would it kill the dumplin'-makers to add a litle black pepper, just for color? Why not have poppy-seed dumplins with mandarin sauce? It would seem so much more appealing.
Nevertheless, the Cotton Patch humored me and took my dumplin' challenge. All I can say is, "Best so far." If you're ever in Flower Mound, the dumplin's are here on Tuesday and Thursday. I'm going to practice eating these, until I acquire the taste.
